A Little Help

August 30, 2011
It's been quite some time since I've done an outfit post. Yes, yes, I've been back in Austin for almost three months now. I must say though, it's been three months of that odd in between living. A time where I'm here and there, traveling and settling and such.

I'm shamelessly throwing that out as an excuse along with my overall lack of clothing, and to be quite honest, my lack of money at the moment. With my life in slightly chaotic transition, this unrelenting heat wave and the boy visiting, I haven't been too much in the mood for photos. Admittedly, there's been a lack of inspiration as well.

Nonetheless, when my mom asked me to take some photos for her today, I said sure. (Although in a slightly hesitant manner due to said reasons.) We ended up having a nice little time over at my Aunt Joan's house...Don't ask me how her yard is so green in this severe drought, but somehow she manages! I got to slip on a petticoat and wear a darling little 1950s number from her shop.

Road Trip

August 22, 2011
It is a true fact that I do not have a working air conditioner in my Jeep at the moment. It is also a true fact that I live in Texas. And that, yes, it is indeed one of the hottest summers on record.

Would those factors keep me from venturing out on a little road trip to West Texas and southern New Mexico? The answer: 99.9% never. I didn't take too many photos as the heat induced a major lethargy. Here are a few scenes from the road nonetheless.

Side Note: Despite my general love of fashion, I have been known to (cough cough) go days in the same pair of cutoffs and cotton tank with hair pulled back to disguise the lack of showering. Yes, the above photos are evidence of this guilty pleasure. Judge or don't judge. The choice is yours. More fashion and foodie talk to follow.

I'm happy to report the shop is back up and running. Saturday I was able to take a few photos and get about four pieces up. It's going to be a slow and steady process getting things back in order but I couldn't be more excited to get back into the swing of things. About a month ago, I met up with my mom for dinner and she was so excited for the surprise she had waiting for me in the car. After a game of 20 questions with her and my aunt, I still couldn't figure out what it could be. Fast forward to after dinner and she pulls out this gorgeous Marie Rose Reid maillot swimsuit from the 1950s. Midnight black. Simple design. Basically the classic beauty I'd been on the hunt for for quite a while. Come to think about it, it's reminiscent of what I'd had in my head back in 2009. There was just a small problem. Size. Tragically it was too big for me! Aha, this was the reasoning behind her evasive answer. Bad news for me. Good news for some lucky gal out there. You guessed it. It's gone up in the shop. The photos don't do it justice. I'm still working on that part. But in the meantime I found these deco style adverts for Marie Rose Reid swimwear. Dreamy aren't they? It's no wonder her designs were coveted by Hollywood starlets such as Marilyn Monroe and the like.

Modern Collodion

August 8, 2011
It's always been the detailed modernity of aged wet plate photos that struck me. However with these images, it's quite the contrary. Knowing they were taken just last year yet possess the antiquated beauty of Civil War era photography makes me thankful there is still a world out there with film, albumen paper and the like. How inspiring are these images by Angela and Ithyle? This design/photo/do what you will duo could very well be a new favorite of mine.

Despite its poor quality, this video makes me smile. How am I just finding out Kenny Rogers is behind this?
